We left of in our last installment assailing those who claim your IT resume should remain short.
Basically telling these progenitors (ooh nice word huh? I am taking writing lessons after all. Thanks Talley) of IT, to SHUT UP!.
Then we went on to explore the reason why a long resume, is better than a short one for IT professionals. Remember, people don’t actually read your IT resume; instead your IT resume is thrown into a data base and then searched for via keyword inquiries. There is a phenomenon in IT recruiting that makes this a necessary evil.
If you post a job in your country (I am trying to be politically correct here) the responses will come from every corner of the globe. These responses will be from every walk of life, and every single discipline. If you were not contacted directly by someone already familiar with your skills, then all bets are off. Still, though, your IT resume will end up in some data base, regardless of first glances, etc… So you need a good IT resume that will defeat lazy recruiters.
That first impression your IT resume leaves a viewer is critical, as I reminded you of our Moms’ insistence on good first impressions. It is common knowledge that geeks seem to linger longer in their homes and care, so Mom is trying to help get us out of the house! How many pages?
